Usaginingen literally translates as “rabbit-man”, a hybrid concept that perfectly explains the characteristics and ability of this Japanese duo — at the same time an extremely effective creation and fusion of video media and music, analogue and digital, screen and stage, electronics and skill.
Emi and Shinichi Hirai embarked on this project in Berlin after moving there in 2010 from Tokyo, where they worked – perhaps surprisingly, given their rapid success in the art world — as a graphic designer and radiologist. Since then, they have performed in more than 25 countries, the duo has been enthusiastically received at numerous European festivals, and their performance at the Reykjavik Visual Music — Punto y Raya Festival in 2014 won an award in the Live Cinema category. After six years of living in Berlin, they now live on the isolated island of Teshima in Japan, where they opened their theatre and are focused on creating a village artistic community.
This concert in Split is realized with the financial support of the City of Split and the Tourist Board of the City of Split.
