Arne Mannott (Germany)

What exactly characterizes contemporary circus art, what meaning does it have and what could even be an attempt to define it? In the documentary “Thinking Circus”, various European circus artists give their answers to these questions. Through the answers, it becomes clear that there are different approaches to this art form, but also that there is a common basic idea of what a circus is. Solidarity, sharing and passing on knowledge are some of the basic values in circus communities…

The film was created according to the concept and direction of Arne Mannot, an artist and curator with experience working in the circus, dance and fine arts, and with an academic degree in philosophy and politics. He is the founder and artistic director of the Vienna festival ON THE EDGE, a festival of experimental circus art.

The film is screened in German with English subtitles.

The work of the ROOM 100 collective in 2024 is supported by the Foundation Kultura nova, and this projection by the City of Split.
