The Thin Line

Nikolina Komljenović (Croatia)

The Thin Line is being built around an innovative aerial prop called fishing nylon. It consists of many thin, plastic, transparent lines that are incised into the body and encourage it to move. There is no place to rest in this process. There is only a harsh reality, pain and desire for change.

The Thin Line is an engaged experimental project that deals with the physical occupation of space. Space is defined as universal and empty, in which the meaning is inscribed in front of the viewer and is established by the act of performance. It is divided into the internal space of the subject, the boundaries between the inner and outer space – the membrane of the body, the skin, which is bounded and maintained by thin lines in the air – and the outer space. This performance is a collaborative work and in Split, Nikolina Komljenović is joined by Jadranka Žinić Mijatović as a performer, too.

Nikolina Komljenović has a master’s degree in art history and comparative literature. She is a professional contemporary dancer, choreographer, aerialist, pedagogue and producer of the association ekscena. She is a member of the supervisory boards of the Association of Dance Artists of Croatia and a member of the Croatian Association of Independent Artists.

The performance of “The Thin Line” in Split is realized with the financial support of the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Split.
