Special screening of a documentary film about the theater group Kugla glumište with an interview with guests Višnja Kačić Rogošić and Zlatko Burić Kićo, winner of the award for the best actor in 2022 of the European Film Academy, moderated by Kristina Tešija.

“Soft Ships” is a documentary film about the theater group Kugla glumište, which was the most important avant-garde theater, multimedia and interdisciplinary art group in Croatia and former Yugoslava from the mid-seventies and early eighties of the twentieth century. Instead of traditional theater, Kugla imagined theater as an urban ritual and social situation. It rejected the theater as a “cube”, in which the place for the spectators was known in advance, and established the theater as a sphere, as non-dramatic theater, a total theater overlapped with life. It was important for the group how to establish a new way of organizing work in theater production.

The film features members of the Kugla Theater, musicians from the Kugla Band, theater experts, theater workers, contemporaries and companions of the Kugla Theater. We will have the opportunity to talk with two of them, Višnja Rogošić and Zlatko Burić Kićo, after the screening of the film. We will also ask the question whether the Kugla glumište paved the way for a new circus in Croatia?

The screening of the film and the conversation with the guests is part of the Network of Performing Arts 2024 program, which is realized with the financial support of the Kultura nova Foundation. The work of the ROOM 100 collective in 2024 is supported by the Kultura nova Foundation, and this projection by the City of Split and the Croatian Audiovisual Center.
