Based on somatic research among the homeless in Rio de Janeiro, psychiatric hospitals and historical archives of so-called hysterical patients, Alice Rende develops a physical vocabulary that breaks the usual patterns of contortion – a circus discipline of extreme flexibility. With “Fora”, Alice pays tribute to Houdini, the famous illusionist and escape artist, but also a tribute to all those who do not fit into today’s society, which gives this circus genre a completely new meaning. Enclosed in a plexiglass box, reminiscent of exhibits in anatomical museums, where the sounds from the sound box are transformed into cello harmonies, Alice creates a truly unique performance – groundbreaking for the genre.
“Fora” means “outside” in Portuguese, Catalan, Occitan and Sardinian.
With this project, Alice was laureate of the circusnext 2022-2023 project, a program of recognition and financial, residential, presentational and administrative support of emerging contemporary circus artists in Europe.
The performance “Fora” is realized with the financial support of the European Union – Creative Europe program, Teatroskop (part of the “Circus (must) SEE” program), the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Split and the Tourist Board of the City of Split.
TICKETS
Tickets for performances on Friday and Saturday are available at the online WEBshop and one hour before the start of each performance at the venue or at the festival office (Plančić street 2, from 20th to 25th of May, 9:00 to 17:00). Tickets for The Green are available at the HNK Splt WEBshop or at the theatre box office. Tickets for Project 4,28 km/h are available at the Municipal youth theatre Split WEBshop or at the theatre box office. If you would like and can afford to support the organization of the festival, you can purchase a slightly more expensive festival pass and help the future development of contemporary circus.
