Petra Najman / Cirkorama (Croatia)

Motivated by an injury that temporarily stopped her work, Petra Najman creates performing material that explores the perception of mortality through the eyes of a circus artist.

Through the performance, the artist establishes a very close relationship with her partner on stage – Death, and thus tries to convey a clear emotion to the audience in order to portray Death as a necessity – an integral part of life, playing with grotesque, elements of horror, drama, comedy and parodies with his circus technique on the trapeze. The desire to meet Death, fear, passion and anger are just some of the emotions that intertwine in the performance through circus and puppetry techniques, building a unique piece narrative without words.

Petra Najman (23) has been involved in the circus world since she was 12 years old through various educational activities and performances by the Cirkorama association. At the age of 18, she decided to dedicate herself completely to the circus and went to Turbul Circus School in France. After obtaining a degree in circus pedagogy, she enrolled in France’s Piste d’Azur, where she specializes in static trapeze as her discipline. At the moment, she is studying in the FLIC circus school in Turin, where she continues to study trapeze and circus. The show “My Death and Me” is her first solo project, which she started working on in June 2020 and premiered in November 2021.

Production of the performance was supported by: the City Office for Culture of the City of Zagreb, Kultura nova Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia through the Circus Residential Network. The performance of “My Death and Me” in Split is realized with the financial support of the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Split.
