Borrowing its name from the medieval theatre slang term for the stage, “The Green” promises visually strong theatre, which uses stage magic, video projection, cinematic sound and scenic compositions as its means of expression. “The Green” was inspired by “hauntology”, the feeling of emptiness and “unboxing” videos on YouTube. It is a performance that mourns lost futures and pasts that dictate the present. The nothingness of an empty stage and green screen slowly turns into a living character who takes over the stage area. Combining 19th-century stage magic techniques with the latest video and sound technology, the atmosphere of this show ranges from the mundane to the abstract and magical. “The Green” leads the audience to the brink of the unreal, where the border between reality and delusion is blurred.
Kalle Nio is one of the pioneers of the “magie nouvelle” (new magic) circus genre in Europe. He has been awarded nationally and internationally for his innovations in magic, visual arts and projection design. He is the founder of the famous Finnish circus collective WHS.
The performance “The Green” in the Croatian National Theater Split is the first time contemporary circus is entering into the world of the highest cultural institutions in Croatia, next to the drama, opera and ballet.
The performance is realized with the financial support of the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Split and the Tourist Board of the City of Split.
TICKETS
Tickets for performances on Friday and Saturday are available at the online WEBshop and one hour before the start of each performance at the venue or at the festival office (Plančić street 2, from 20th to 25th of May, 9:00 to 17:00). Tickets for The Green are available at the HNK Splt WEBshop or at the theatre box office. Tickets for Project 4,28 km/h are available at the Municipal youth theatre Split WEBshop or at the theatre box office. If you would like and can afford to support the organization of the festival, you can purchase a slightly more expensive festival pass and help the future development of contemporary circus.
