Contemporary circus is much more than just an art form. Specific production conditions, the need for physical preparedness, and the interdisciplinary character of performance and concept, define not just the work of circus artists but their life as well. This makes the collaboration between members of a collective intimately close and vigorous. The magic of circus happens when that energy is shared with the audience. Peculiar families festival is an attempt to break down the barriers between the audience and the performers, the city and the circus tent. The festival was named in recognition of the complexity and the intimacy of everyday relations — of family as both community and necessity — and the need to openly discuss the personal choices which make all of us “circus artists” in our own environments.
